Joyful January

Image
... although let's be honest, it's usually not that joyful!  It's cold, dark, and a very, very long time to the next payday!! You know my thoughts on New Year resolutions by now, I'm not a great fan despite the fact that I absolutely love planning, organising, goals, targets etc etc.  However, it's simply not a good time of year to put pressure on ourselves.  Every year we think that something magical is going to happen on the 1st January and we'll morph into super motivated human beings.  I'm not being pessimistic, I'm being realistic and whilst it's brilliant to have the goal of changing something in your life for the better, you need to go about it in the right way. Instead of charging into the new year like a bull in a china shop, use January and February to re-group so that you are ready to emerge in Spring, along with all the other new shoots and things in nature that have been resting and recuperating.  Don't be too complacent though, th...

Earn yourself a great reputation by having a positive attitude

Image
Having lots of PA is vital in my role as a PA!  Yep, it's all about 'positive attitude' this week and it could be the key to your happiness at work. It might sound a bit dramatic but without a positive attitude I simply wouldn't be able to do my job and get through the day.  For example, myself and a fellow PA spent an hour last week trying to book one meeting - yes, seriously!  You see, it's a bit like playing 'Kerplunk' (anyone else remember that game?!), you move one item in the diary and the whole thing comes crashing down and you lose ALL your marbles - quite literally in our case.  But we persevered with "what if we moved that", "what if we changed the time for that", "what if we shortened that meeting to fit it in there" and so the discussions continued until we'd sorted it.  Our positive attitude kept us going and exploring at all options. That's the thing about having a positive attitude, it drives you forward...

Brighten up YOUR day

Image
Have you noticed that when you do something for someone else, it gives you a nice, warm, fuzzy feeling inside. How often do you do that for yourself?  Do something to brighten up YOUR own day?  I'm guessing not as many times as you do something for someone else right?  We're often that busy taking care of the needs of others, whether it's colleagues, partners, friends, parents, children, pets, that we often forget to do something to brighten up our own days. Well, this week I'm going to be doing just that, brightening up my own life with a little ME time.  I have a whole week off work - woo hoo, first break since Xmas so I'm in desperate need!!  Yes, there'll be times when I need to do things for others but on the whole I'm planning some ' be kind to me' time. No time like the present so I brightened up this morning with a run through some very colourful fields! So, what else am I planning this week? More running! Catching up on my reading Going fo...

Top tips for when you're being hit from all directions

Image
I’ve had to have some difficult conversations and make some tough decisions recently. Sadly, Mr Bob has not taken the hint and he’s still here - lol 😆 Joking aside, I have had to make some choices that will change people’s lives, all for the greater good but nevertheless, with day-to-day life to deal with as well, I've felt a bit overwhelmed by everything.  Overwhelmed, the very word overwhelmed makes me feel well ... overwhelmed!  So let's think about it in terms of simply having too much on your plate. I thought this might be a subject worth revisiting due to the sheer volume of it all being 'a bit too much' right now.   When your world has suddenly shrunk to within your own four walls, it can be very easy to feel like things are coming at you from all angles and there’s just no space to breath.   In many cases, you can feel paralysed by procrastination despite knowing things will be better if you just got on with the tasks in hand.  But, that's the whole po...

Pulling together in difficult times

Image
We are living in a strange  and worrying time I did have some material prepared for this week's blog but it seemed insignificant in light of what's been happening over the course of the week.  So I thought I'd talk about how we can all help ourselves, others and pull together during this very difficult time. Regardless of what our individual opinions on Corona virus are, we are in this together whether we like it or not.  We are now past the point of no return and can no longer ignore it, even if we are a healthy individual.  As a healthy individual it is within our power to alleviate the pressure on the NHS so that they can focus on our high risk and vulnerable loved ones.   Be the bigger person, even if you only have mild symptoms then please self-isolate and under no circumstances mix with anyone at high risk.  You could well be the person who saves hundreds of lives by staying at home. Employers also have a part to play in th...
