Do we have to go through this yet again?

Yes, because the secret to developing  habits is repetition As we count down the final few weeks to the end of the year, many of us are starting to think about our goals and aspirations for next year.  In fact, in light of the year we've all had, I would imagine that more of us than ever before at this time of year, are starting to look forward to the next.  I'll do more of a reflection on 2020 blog in a couple of weeks' time, in the meantime I'd like to do some groundwork for 2021.  2021?!!  Wow, 2021 sounds so ... well, futuristic.  I feel like we should be teleporting or driving around in cars that can also fly.  Sorry, I digress. Yet again, I'm going back to the subject of habits.  Classic start to the new year, we make promises to ourselves that we can't keep and a couple of months in, they've fallen by the wayside.  We instantly blame willpower, or lack of it, but the fact is that willpower is finite.  We use it up quite quickly th...

How to flip your thinking

Forget about willpower and discipline,  it's time to flip your thinking People often to say to me that I have lots of willpower and discipline, and I suppose on the surface it does look like that.  I'm quite happy to get up at 6 am and go for a run and then I'll still find the time and energy to do some exercise in the evening, as well as a whole host of things in-between. As many of you will know by now, over the last few months I've been experimenting with new routines and habits.  There's a few tweaks here and there I'd like to make and I'm struggling in some areas and finding it difficult to build new habits.  Your mind will always take the easy option and your thoughts will always go down the path of least resistance, w...

How to boost your energy with simple lifestyle changes

Boost your energy and  stop the pyjama routine every night I bound through the door at 7pm following a run and discover a friend has called round.  Mavis (name changed to protect her identity!) is yawning and saying she's ready for bed.  This isn't a one-off, it's every single time we see her, she's always tired and always wanting to get home, put on her pyjamas and go to bed.  We all have days when we're tired, of course we do, but it shouldn't be the norm and, if it is, then you need to ask yourself why. I've since discovered that my friend survives on very little water throughout the day and usually ends up having a Mars bar for lunch and leftovers from the children's plates for tea.  Is it any wonder she's tired all the time?!! Fuelling your body with good nutrition has a huge effect on your energy levels so if you're constantly yawning and eager to put on your pyjamas the minute you walk through the door every evening, the...
