Top tips for when you're being hit from all directions

I’ve had to have some difficult conversations and make some tough decisions recently. Sadly, Mr Bob has not taken the hint and he’s still here - lol 😆 Joking aside, I have had to make some choices that will change people’s lives, all for the greater good but nevertheless, with day-to-day life to deal with as well, I've felt a bit overwhelmed by everything.  Overwhelmed, the very word overwhelmed makes me feel well ... overwhelmed!  So let's think about it in terms of simply having too much on your plate. I thought this might be a subject worth revisiting due to the sheer volume of it all being 'a bit too much' right now.   When your world has suddenly shrunk to within your own four walls, it can be very easy to feel like things are coming at you from all angles and there’s just no space to breath.   In many cases, you can feel paralysed by procrastination despite knowing things will be better if you just got on with the tasks in hand.  But, that's the whole po...

Gaining strength from setbacks

Conquering the challenges life throws at you and gaining strength from setbacks Towards the end of 2017 I started looking for a new job and, incredibly, I only had two interviews, one of which turned into my current job.  However, the two experiences couldn't have been any more different. The first interview started well, I had numerous 'tests' to do such as spelling and giving examples of how I'd react in certain situations.  I passed all these with flying colours apparently so I then went on to have the formal part of the interview.  I was answering everything that was thrown at me but I noticed that my interviewers kept coming back to the fact that I'd spent almost 14 years in  the same job in the public sector and were saying how different and fast paced it was in the private sector.  I knew this, I had always worked in the private sector previously and told them as such.  In the end I felt I was trying to justify my situation rather then g...

Freedom and managing my mind!

A grand day (two actually) out of the office When you're a PA you don't get let out of the office very often, in fact I barely make it past the boundaries of the third floor before my electronic tag goes off.  So when the opportunity does come along, you grab it with both hands.  Not only was I let out of the office for two whole days last week but I went to a conference / training event purely for PA's so everyone there 'got me'.  We all shared the same challenges and there were many sympathetic nods and "hmm, I know what you mean" throughout the course of the two days. Joking aside, it's so important to make the time to attend such events.  I'm very lucky in that both the company, and the directors I work for, are very supportive when it comes to learning and development.  Although your ego will lead you to think differently on occasions, the office won't fall apart if you're not there.  Not only that, but when you do return to t...
