Slow down ... and chill out

I've said this a million times so here's a million and one times - you don't realise how much you need a break until you actually take one. I've had the pleasure of being on holiday from work this last week and the first weekend of it was spent with a crazy bunch of women at Center Parcs for my niece's hen do.  As you can imagine, it was utter carnage but sooo much fun.  We had a packed agenda of activities, drinking, activities, drinking, erm more drinking!! Our time in the sub-tropical swimming paradise centre was fabulous fun as we all reverted back to being children again.  We threw ourselves down the wild water rapids, numerous waterslides and screamed with delight when the wave machine was turned on.  There was also 10-pin bowling, laser combat, crazy golf, cycling and the spa - oh the spa, ridiculously good and so relaxing.  I also took my running kit of course and squeezed in two runs! It was like being in a bubble of fun for four days and it made me rea...

Earn yourself a great reputation by having a positive attitude

Image
Having lots of PA is vital in my role as a PA!  Yep, it's all about 'positive attitude' this week and it could be the key to your happiness at work. It might sound a bit dramatic but without a positive attitude I simply wouldn't be able to do my job and get through the day.  For example, myself and a fellow PA spent an hour last week trying to book one meeting - yes, seriously!  You see, it's a bit like playing 'Kerplunk' (anyone else remember that game?!), you move one item in the diary and the whole thing comes crashing down and you lose ALL your marbles - quite literally in our case.  But we persevered with "what if we moved that", "what if we changed the time for that", "what if we shortened that meeting to fit it in there" and so the discussions continued until we'd sorted it.  Our positive attitude kept us going and exploring at all options. That's the thing about having a positive attitude, it drives you forward...

Top tips for when you're being hit from all directions

I’ve had to have some difficult conversations and make some tough decisions recently. Sadly, Mr Bob has not taken the hint and he’s still here - lol 😆 Joking aside, I have had to make some choices that will change people’s lives, all for the greater good but nevertheless, with day-to-day life to deal with as well, I've felt a bit overwhelmed by everything.  Overwhelmed, the very word overwhelmed makes me feel well ... overwhelmed!  So let's think about it in terms of simply having too much on your plate. I thought this might be a subject worth revisiting due to the sheer volume of it all being 'a bit too much' right now.   When your world has suddenly shrunk to within your own four walls, it can be very easy to feel like things are coming at you from all angles and there’s just no space to breath.   In many cases, you can feel paralysed by procrastination despite knowing things will be better if you just got on with the tasks in hand.  But, that's the whole po...

Life's too short

Image
Life's too short to stuff a mushroom .... Said Shirley Conran, author of "Superwoman", way back in the 1970's.  We seem to think that juggling work and home life is a relatively new concept but as this book reveals, it's most definitely not. I got thinking about the phrase "life's too short" following a recent, and rather messy it has to be said, night out with the girls.  The next morning as the fog started to lift, I checked my phone and there it was in all its glory, my Facebook post declaring "I'm going to Ibiza for my 50th next year, who's coming?!"  What the *&%!  Ok, what now?  Do I just ignore it, pretend it never happened and hope that no-one mentions it ever again.  Yeah right, as I scrolled down the comments, it seemed that my friends were actually quite keen, some of which had not been there on the night out and were fully compos mentis. I sat pondering for a while and that little phrase "life's...
