Jubilant July
I know I say this every single month but wow, another month gone and, more to the point, a full 6 months of the year has gone by!! Don't you find that time itself though is quite weird and wonderful. Yes, the first 6 months seem to have flown by and everyone is saying "I can't believe it's July already", but cast your mind back and January seems a lifetime ago.
The mid-point of the year does make me panic somewhat though in terms of "oh my god, am I just letting the year slip by, what have I done with my life so far this year?!" So, you know what's coming don't you? Yep, a half-year review!
Last week, I took the time to look back and reflect on what I've done so far this year and plan for what I need to do for those areas I've let slip somewhat.
Overall, I have to say that I'm quite pleased with what I've achieved to date. This year I was determined to be a bit more chilled out and say 'yes' to more things, both big and small. We spend way too much time dithering and thinking 'ooh, should I really do that', so I've been saying 'yes' and dealing with the consequences later!
If things haven't quite gone to plan and you're a bit off-track then the mid-point of the year is a great time to pick yourself up and start afresh. Don't waste precious time beating yourself up for what you haven't done. Focus on what you can, and will do, over the next 6 months.
Holiday season is in full swing which is another great opportunity to chill out and think about the coming months. It's much easier to focus when we're not caught up in the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. Holidays are a time to sit, think and dream so make the most of them and promise yourself that you'll turn some of those dreams into reality - they don't have to be huge dreams, start small and simply change one thing in your everyday routine that currently isn't working for you.
As I write this, the weather has actually changed for the better, it feels like summer has finally arrived and that in itself makes you feel a whole lot more inspired. Take this morning's boot camp for instance. We were up on the moors, the sun was shining, the sky was blue, the views were simply magnificent and it felt almost spiritual. We were completely lost in the moment. That's what life should be about, creating and capturing those moments and memories. There you go, I'll give you that dream for free ... make a promise to yourself that over the next 6 months you'll spend more time with people who give you energy and in places that inspire you. See, I told you that your dreams didn't have to be huge.
There's enough rubbish going on in the world right now and this quote summed things up for me ...
