Don't be a drifter

No, I don't mean in a 'Saturday Night at the Movies' kind of way (Google it if you have no idea what I'm talking about!).  I mean don't be a drifter as in letting life pass you by.

I've been in a very reflective mood this week.  I had my Covid vaccine last Sunday and then on Tuesday we had the minute silence to think about all those people who have died due to Covid and all the many families it has affected.  These kind of things tend to make you reflect on your own life and your own mortality.  Stick with me, I will get more upbeat in this blog!

It's just that these kind of moments make you realise how precious life is and how important it is to be happy, every single day, and not drift through life without appreciating what you have.

The other day Mr Bob was reading out some b****cks that someone had put on Facebook about what they would do if they won the lottery.  It saddened me somewhat that people were making comments such as how much they hated their job so the first thing they'd do is hand in their notice and tell their boss to shove it, or saying that they couldn't wait to leave where they live and move to another country.  How can you live your life like that?  Seriously, how can you hate your life so much and not do anything about it?  We're not talking about people who are in serious dire straits here, we're talking about people who have the chance to change things in their life if they're not happy.

I've become a little bit obsessed with podcasts recently, even more so than usual and I love listening to hard hitting, motivating and inspirational stories.  The one I listened to yesterday was Susie Ma (founder of Tropic skincare if you don't know who she is).  It's a real rags to riches story but even when she speaks about her family struggling to make ends meet as a child and then about how she was bullied when she moved to another country, she mentions the importance of being happy and how passionate she was, and still is, about everything in life, every single day.

I was listening to this podcast whilst doing my cleaning, nope it's not the most exciting thing to do in the world but needs doing every week, so I always make it into something better.  I don't want to be someone who does the cleaning whilst hating every minute of it because quite honestly that a few hours of my life and they're precious to me.  Sounds really dramatic I know, but it's true and I want to make the most of every moment.  So if that means finding ways to be more creative when you're doing something you don't really want to, then so be it.  For me, it's putting on some energising music or listening to inspiring podcasts when I clean!

So this week, I'm challenging you to find ways to make things better, whether it's cleaning, doing your finances, running errands, whatever it is that doesn't float your boat, think about what you can do to make those tasks more enjoyable.

By the way, if it's not just the cleaning that you hate and it's your job, house, town where you live, etc etc, then I highly suggest you do something about it ... before it's too late.  DON'T be a drifter!!
