Mash-Up May

Who's up for a mash-up in May?

So what exactly is a mash-up I hear you cry?  Why it's quite simply ...

"A mixture of different, often contrasting, elements"

Throughout the month of May, we'll be looking at how to get more bang for your bucks.  Mash-ups work particularly well when you're short on time but still want to achieve as much as possible.  They're also a great way to incorporate some variety into your life to jazz things up a bit.  Whoa there, I didn't mean in THAT area of your life, let's keep it clean folks!

We are kicking off the mash-up month by focusing on exercise this week.  The  mini, but challenging, circuit below can be completed in a ridiculously short period of time.  The only catch is that in order to achieve the best result you must put in your maximum effort.

This circuit which will help you develop upper body, lower body and core strength, balance and stability, there's even a few fast runs thrown in for good measure to improve your cardiovascular system.  A complete mash-up in other words!  You don't need any equipment, just head for your local park.

  • Run fast for 2 mins
  • 15 press-ups on a bench
  • 30 bench step-ups
  • 15 triceps dips on a bench
  • 15 jumping squats
  • Run fast for 2 mins
  • 20 ab crunches
  • 15 triceps press-ups
  • Run fast for 2 mins
  • REST for 1 minute then repeat twice more if you have time.
If you're not sure on how to do some of these exercises then please don't hesitate to get in touch and ask me.

With some slight variations, I tried this circuit out on my boot campers the other day and instead of sprints we did hill reps.  Let's just say I wasn't that popular, although they were smiling (or grimacing) at the end.

Mind you, I'm not sure all of my fitness clients appreciate me.  For example, some of them will do anything to get out of their session.  Two of them even tried laying a trip wire for me the other day.  I mean, come on ladies, you need to be a bit more subtle than that!  😆

Next week, I'll be talking about how using the pomodoro method has made me so much more productive - in everything, from my running to planning to work to French study.  I think it's been around a while but as always, I'm lagging behind!!  So if anyone else doesn't know about this little gem then prepare for your mind to be blown.
