How to deal with change

Image
Don't be afraid of change When change is unexpected and sudden, it's scary and can be upsetting.  But, if something is out of your control, there's absolutely no point in fighting against it.  You have to figure out the best way to get through it, because like it or not, it's happening.  You can't sit there and think 'could have', 'should have, 'would have', the only thing you can do now is move forwards. On the other hand, when you've instigated the change yourself, it's still scary but also exciting.  Towards the end of 2017 I decided to look for a new job.  I was starting to feel uncomfortable with being comfortable, if you know what I mean?!  I needed a change.  Once I've made a big decision like this I tend to go 'all in' which is exactly what I did.  Not only did I change the city where I worked but I changed from the public sector back to the private sector and changed industry.  Yup, no half measures for ...

How to stay in balance over Easter

Image
Easy Tiger It's the first proper holiday after Christmas so here's a few tips to ensure you don't hurtle headlong into chocolate oblivion and family stresses! Give yourself a mental health overhaul You shouldn't wait until life gets tough before you take time out to engage in preventative measures to keep stress and anxiety at bay, but all too often we simply get caught up in life itself until it's too late.  Don't wait any longer!  With the long weekend upon us, now is the perfect time to step back and take some time to understand your emotions and mental health.  Write down some really simple changes that you can incorporate into your life to help keep on top of things.  Even just 10 minutes relaxation / meditation has been proven to be beneficial in reducing stress levels. Add in some good stuff! Worried about overdoing it at the big family get together?  At the very least, start the day with a really healthy breakfast.  Why not try ...

Half marathon reflection & tips to get out of your comfort zone

Not too shabby, I'll take that I'm writing today's blog whilst sat with my feet up and enjoying a well deserved drink (water, just water) as this morning I ran the Sheffield half marathon.  I've not done it for a couple of years so had forgotten how tough it was, although unlike most people I actually like the first half when it's uphill.  It's the never ending drags in the second half on the long roads back towards to the city centre that I find soul destroying. I'd missed a few long runs recently due to a couple of weekends away and it's these things that often make the difference so I wasn't really expecting much in terms of a good time.  Besides, I'd set myself the goal of doing a decent time in the Huddersfield half marathon in June so that was my main focus.  Sheffield was only ever going to be a bonus. It never ceases to amaze me that out of thousands of people you always see someone you know.   Ok, I know the odds might be sli...

Life's too short

Image
Life's too short to stuff a mushroom .... Said Shirley Conran, author of "Superwoman", way back in the 1970's.  We seem to think that juggling work and home life is a relatively new concept but as this book reveals, it's most definitely not. I got thinking about the phrase "life's too short" following a recent, and rather messy it has to be said, night out with the girls.  The next morning as the fog started to lift, I checked my phone and there it was in all its glory, my Facebook post declaring "I'm going to Ibiza for my 50th next year, who's coming?!"  What the *&%!  Ok, what now?  Do I just ignore it, pretend it never happened and hope that no-one mentions it ever again.  Yeah right, as I scrolled down the comments, it seemed that my friends were actually quite keen, some of which had not been there on the night out and were fully compos mentis. I sat pondering for a while and that little phrase "life's...
